2009 Jazz Camp: July 5th - 12th

The emphasis is on playing at the Mammoth Lakes Jazz Jubilee Jazz Camp. And, it's playing in small band units, with coaching provided by professional musicians and educators who help develop jazz abilities in:

• Improvisation
• Instrumental technique
• Harmony and scales
• How to create Jazz Solos
• How to improvise ensemble parts
• How to play in different jazz styles
• Playing from music, and by ear
• Whatever you want to know about playing jazz

Who can attend?
The Mammoth Lakes Jazz Jubilee Jazz camp is open to musicians between the ages of 13 and 17 as of July 1. Students must be able to play their instruments. The camp is not for learning how to play; it's for learning how to play jazz. All instruments are welcome. The enrollment limit is 42 students.

The camp is primarily a playing experience not a classroom experience!

The Costs?

The total cost for instruction, housing, food, materials and in-town transportation is $595.00. Each student is responsible for transportation to and from Mammoth Lakes. Many jazz societies offer scholarships for camp programs as do other organizations such as Kiwanis, Optimists, etc. Investigate the opportunities in your community or contact us for further information.

When does it happen?

July 5th - 12th.

Housing?

Campers stay in Mammoth Lakes. Most meals are provided and campers will be under adult supervision at all times during the camp.

Recreation
In addition to music instruction and band practice, the Mammoth Lakes Jazz Jubilee Jazz Camp provides recreational opportunities, adequate time for rest and reflection; and short trips to attractions and activities in the Mammoth Lakes area.

Campers perform in the actual Jazz Jubilee and not just in a single end-of-camp concert
